Forum of Local Authorities for Social Inclusion (FAL)
Presentation
The Forum of Local Authorities for Social Inclusion was created in 2001, within the context of the World Social Forum. Called under the initiative of the city of Porto Alegre, it congregates representatives of cities in Latin America, Europe, Africa and the Middle West.
The purpose of this organization if to formulate a concept of local governance that, based on the acknowledgment of cultural, political and economic differences existing in different regions of the planet, could guide public policies towards administrative behaviours that may create social inclusion. Actions should be articulated with all social movements that congregate in the World Social Forum and members should become consultation partners of local authorities.
The network also favours debates and exchange of experiences among its members on:
- Participative democracy.
- The design of programs for social inclusion and for the advancement of social justice.
- The defence and protection of public services.
- For democratisation of the media and for the strengthening of relations among local governments and the civil society.
